Wen Boren (文伯仁1502-1575), Chinese Ming Dynasty painter, was born in a literary family in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. His uncle is famous artist Wen Zhengming (文徵明1470-1559). Boren’s early years of learning, cultivation and painting skills were heavily influenced by Suzhou local culture traditions and Wen Zhengming. After his middle age, Wen Boren had traveled to Beijing, Nanjing, Songjiang and introduced the literary school art style to those cities.
Among those who imitated Wen Zhengming art style, Boren was one of the outstanding students and formed his own painting style. He developed Wen’s complex painting structure towards more exquisite and rigor direction. With delicate drawing skill and ingenuity of composition, his literary school works exude a unique quietly elegant taste. Critics often compared him with Wang Meng (王蒙1308-1385), one of four master artists in Yuan Dyansty.
